Background
The healthdirect app started life as a mobile friendly clone of the healthdirect website. It largely mirrored functionality and content available on the website, rather than having its own unique app-centric user experience and value proposition.
The challenge
We needed to define a strategy for the App that gave it a clear purpose, and to supplement rather than compete with Healthdirect’s other service channels. To define the strategy, we gathered inputs from:
consumer research,
Healthdirect’s organisational strategy, and
best practice use of app technologies.
Key insight
People managing moderate to complex health conditions have the strongest need, to help stay in control of their health admin and this needs to be ‘on-hand’ as they visit health services. Their top tasks are to ‘seek care’, ‘prepare and organise’ and ‘log and recall’ their health information, so they can achieve the best health outcome.
What we did
Facilitated stakeholder workshops and reviewed the health app landscape.
Alongside the client, established user experience goals for the app.
Developed service ideas and produced clickable prototypes to use as stimulus for interviews.
Learnt how users currently manage their health—documentation, scheduling and communicating—by conducting both qualitative and quantitative research.
Crafted a strategy for the app which included defining target audience groups.
Determined a feature roadmap.
The result
Healthdirect now has a clear strategic roadmap to guide future app enhancements that will help it stand apart in the crowded health app landscape.
“Made Simpler were a pleasure to work with and came to this strategy project with genuine interest to improve our product and make a difference to our users. They were highly collaborative, logical and knowledgeable of digital health and consumer experience. We’ve ended up with a strategic vision and roadmap that will help shape the way we deliver our digital health services and improve the lives of Australians.”
